The album was entitled Getz/Gilberto. The Brazilian musician 'Tom' Jobin, who wrote The Girl from Ipanema and is credited with 'internationalising' bossa nova, was also involved.
Astrud Gilberto sang on only two songs on the album. She was reportedly only paid the standard session fee, and it was later claimed that Getz asked producer Creed Taylor to ensure that she was paid nothing.
According to Wikipedia, Astrud Gilberto "had a relationship" with Getz while they were on tour together, during which he "was abusive".
João Gilberto and Astrud Weinert (her father was German) married in 1959 and divorced in the mid–60s. Stan Getz died of cancer in 1991, aged 64. João Gilberto died in 2019, aged 88, and Astrud Gilberto died four years later, aged 83. She'd lived in the United States (ironically in Philadelphia, Getz's home town) since 1963.
